Tron: Legacy

We just got back from watching Tron: Legacy. It was pretty much what we expected: great visuals, Daft Punk sound track. If you liked the look in the trailers, and like Daft Punk, the movie's worth seeing, because it's got plenty of both of those things (and boy are the visuals slick). But as for the story, there isn't all that much there, and as for the writing... well it could use some work. For instance, main character hasn't seen his dad in 20 years. Main character meets his dad played by Jeff Bridges) who was convinced he'd never see his kid again. Dad's reaction: it's almost time for dinner; we'll talk then. Um, hello? He just met his kid he hadn't seen in 20 years, and thought would never see again, and he'll talk to him later? And just what does he have to do that's so important? Go and stand contemplatingly on a balcony. Right. Also there was this whole speech about how something or other would change the world, medicine, religion, blah and blah and blah. None of us could quite figure out why this doohickey would do any of things, but Jeff Bridges wasn't kind enough to give us a clue. But well, honestly, no one's seeing Tron for the story, so these problems didn't bother me as much.

Also, just wanted to mention that CG Jeff Bridges was absolutely amazing. I know alot of people have been criticizing that he looks botox'ed, and yes, it wasn't quite perfect. But to think that it was so close that it's got you convinced that it's a real face, just one that's undergone some plastic surgery? That is pretty amazing. Something the critics are sort of failing to mention. Guess they forgot about Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

Also, everyone still loves Bruce Boxleitner's voice. Can't wait to see him at ECCC. =D
