Kyouya stared at Tamaki from across the expanse of the room. Only a few yards stood between the two of them, but those yards could have been a thousand meters, or more, for what the distance felt like.
There was a crowd between them, too; the dozens of people might have contributed to the distance, but Kyouya knew it was more than that: it was the silence, the lack of touch, the lack of anything, that made the distance seem so wide.
Kyouya's spot was against a wall; not in the corner or in the shadows, but simply against a wall, a glass in his hands, approachable to any who dared risk the smirk and the cold gleam in his dark eyes.
None would, he knew that. No one did, with the exception of Tamaki.
And now, Tamaki wasn't even going to dare, not with so much between them. Tamaki was giving Kyouya what Kyouya said he wanted.
Only, he didn't want it anymore. Not after days of it, of the lack of Tamaki's random hugs and pouting and silly, laughing comments. He wanted Tamaki's smile, Tamaki's purple eyes looking into his, bright with amusement one moment and watery with tears the next.
If only he knew that Tamaki wanted the same.
Tamaki had rebounded quickly from Kyouya's words; bouncing back with laughter and smiles and all the grace he had been born with. He hadn't broken his promise to give Kyouya what he wanted since that day, four afternoons prior, and everything was, for Tamaki at least, or so it appeared, the same as it had always been. Kyouya, always confident, always calm, wasn't even sure if his friend felt the distance as much as Kyouya himself did.
'You've never denied before,' Kyouya thought, staring at the head of blond hair. 'So give it to me now.'
