For January, I'm going through and writing all of the old prompts I can find that I promised to write for people. This is one for
mlina, featuring a genderswitched!Sanada and her OC, Yukimura Eiri (Seiichi's sister. Roughly 504 words, PG.
Sanada stares at the door in front of her, raising and hand and dropping it before she knocks: she wants to turn and flee, back to her bedroom, where the world can not see her. But that would be the action of a coward and Sanada is no coward - even if, at the moment, she is not entirely herself.
Yukimura is expecting her, and that thought alone makes Sanada raise her hand and finally knock. Yukimura, whom Sanada almost hates at the moment: he has gotten his body back, while Sanada and Yanagi suffer the curse of a woman's body, still. But even as Sanada thinks that she might possibly hate Yukimura, the thought disappears, driven out by the same thing that makes her knock. She can no more hate Yukimura for getting his body back than she can hate Yanagi for not knowing why it all happened.
The knock against the wood echoes in the house, too quiet for the moment - Sanada hopes it is a good sign that no one else is around, just Yukimura; but seconds later, she hears Yukimura's sister's voice - "I'll get it, nii-san."
If the world was kind, it would open up a hole beneath her feet and let her fall through; but if the world were kind, none of this would be happening and there would be no need for Sanada to wish she had been a coward.
The door opens, and there is Eiri's smiling face that clouds with confusion for a few moments, but quickly passes as Sanada tugs down the cap she still does not go without.
"Seiichi-nii's been expecting you, Sanada-san," she says, and Sanada is pleased to note she doesn't look shocked or appalled or amused - although it makes sense, she was around Yukimura when he'd been in a different body. "I'm sorry to hear that you - err, didn't-"
Sanada nods abruptly; she doesn't look up, except once to glance at Eiri quickly, then away, and she wishes she could just disappear, but can't. She wants to curse all of this and was she a lesser man - woman - she just might have; but instead she swallows and tugs on the brim of her hat again.
"Its fine," she mumbles, and steps inside the house, quickly pulling off her shoes; she shifts uncomfortably under Eiri's rather frank gaze - it doesn't remind her of Seiichi's, but any eyes on her makes her uncomfortable. She dislikes the thought of people seeing her in the state she is currently in, and that includes the people she numbers as friends and acquaintances.
"Perhaps it will happen to you soon," Eiri offers, a stab at optimism, and Sanada wonders if she notices how awkward she is feeling, because Seiichi's sister smiles at her then, and moves toward the kitchen. "Seiichi-nii is up in his room."
Sanada breathes a sigh of relief when she disappears into the kitchen, thanking whatever she can think to thank that Eiri is as observant as Seiichi - perhaps even more so, in some things.
