It's Oscar time 2018
Sadly, I haven't been here in a while. Life has gotten hectically busy (thanks to teaching). While I still attempt to watch all of the Oscar "Best Picture" films, I have given up reviewing them. Well, SOMEHOW, I missed updating about this last year. I've almost completely given up on movie reviews at this point, though I still watch tons of movies. Oscars 2015 Best Picture Nominees
I am thoroughly excited about this year's nominees. I enjoyed watching almost every single one. As such, I'm not sure I can level the films this round with any deal of great justice. Oscars 2014 Best Picture Nominees
I hate to say it, but this year's Oscar nominees for Best Picture of the Year are simply UN-inspiring. And this year, more than any other, I want to kvetch about the "old white institution" that nominates the films. I have been putting off writing this entry. I have been putting off making any predictions because frankly this year I am baffled. I suspect I know who WILL win, given the precursors in other award shows, but making a determination of "best film of the year" myself, I'm a bit perplexed. Once again I have managed to watch ALL of the films nominated in this category (though it's getting harder to do with NINE nominees!) and am now willing to offer my takes on them, as well as give my predictions. War Horse--4 out of 5 stars
I take it back. I DO have a 10th movie to round out my best movies of 2011 list. Bump off "The Eagle" from that list all together, push everything down a slot, and slide "War Horse" into position #2! Seriously! I predict the Oscar race this year will be between Scorsese and Spielberg, because Spielburg has done it again! ( review of 'War Horse' with minor spoilers ) -
The Best Movies of 2011
It's that time of year where I look back on the films I watched all year long and let you know which ones were my favorites, BUT I feel like this year's list needs a disclaimer.
