a few days ago, I am sitting on the sofa in the middle of the living room with my laptop on my lap, using our fiber optic wireless internet connection (now at the highest available speed) to watch streaming video clips, and my mother comes up to me and dead-serious says "is that a tape?"
I was so stunned I couldn't respond at first,my mouth just hung open, i couldn't figure out what to say, but eventually I said "what do you want?!" then after a pause burst out laughing. mom soon joined in and for a long time we couldn't stop laughing.
of course, what she was trying to ask was if I could pause what I was doing to help her with something, and now when she needs something she'll just ask me "is that a tape?" and we laugh.
in fact, almost every day we say something that ends up making us both laugh. Dayna can attest to this phenomenon as well, just a couple days in Ireland together yielded quite a few good ones, such as "well sometimes at my age, laugher causes leakage" and her constant re-inventions of local town names, such as "bally-con-rath-ma-wack-a-paddy" (I think the real name of that one was Rathconrath).
in short, I love my mom...
