The local weatherman said that we've had 4.4 inches of rain this week, if it were snow it would have been 40 inches. How sweet would that have been. I wish it had snowed instead of rain. I missed the pre-Christmas snow storm. I flew to Vegas the morning of the storm though it was before it got bad. More:
Wednesday, Dec. 22: One thing I learned on my trip to Vegas: You need to put a security deposit down for virtually everything, to which I was unprepared. I strolled over to Budget after baggage claim to get my car, had everything set and she ran my debit card through the machine. I asked the worker why and she said: "Oh, there is a $200 deposit on this car. We'll credit it back to your card once you return the car." So fine, I deal with that.
Flash forward to that afternoon when I'm checking into my hotel and the worker runs my debit card through the machine. I tell her that I paid for my room online. "Oh, there is a $50 deposit on the room. We'll credit it back to your card once you check out."
It's not like my hotel was that wonderful. You've heard at Heartbreak Hotel? I stayed at Hokey Hotel. While the Bellagio had entertainment such as Celine Dion and Jerry Seinfeld, mine had Purple Reign: A Prince Tribute Band. Are you kidding me? And then the hotel is actually two buildings, to which I had to walk outside to get to the other building. But I got lost and had to ask some non-English speaking working how to get to my room.
The room actually ended up being ok. I wouldn't have stayed there more than one night, but it served its purpose. And it was pretty close to everything else....that night I walked the Strip, going to Aladdin looking for the machine I won big on last time I was there, but I think the layout changed as I could not find it. I walked inside/gambled a bit at Paris, Ceasars, Bellagio, NY NY, MGM and I went to the fantastic sports memorabilia store I found last time I was there. It was cold and I was tired so I returned my hotel. I gambled a bit at my hotel and won $20. Hurray.
Thursday, the 23th: my parents and grandma picked me up. We returned my car, piddled around Henderson, shopping and such. I had two job interviews, which ended up being more informational meetings. We drove to Arizona and dinner.
Friday, the 24th: We went to Laughlin, Nevada, which is like a mini-Vegas. We went to lunch at the Flamingo and gambled a bit. I won $5 on video poker, but then gambled it back away. We drove back to my parents town and went to this sort of home decor store. The Christmas items were half off so I ended up blowing $50 on ornaments and snowmen and such. Hey, they were half off. Back to the house for dinner. I brought the movie 'Elf' with me and was really excitied to watch it because I thought it was funny. I was the only one, everyone else hated it and ripped on me the rest of the night. After 'Elf' we watched 'Twisted' (my mom's choice), which wasn't any better.
Saturday, the 25th: MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Got up, went to mass then waited two hours for breakfast at Denny's because it was the only place in town open. I was cranky because I hate waiting and wanted to open presents. Finally we got done and went home to open presents. I got: a new Coach purse I wanted, some dishes that match my dish set, a necklace and earrings and a new jewelry box. Santa was very, very kind. After presents we watched the movie 'Overboard' (again, my mom's choice because she heard it was funny), ate an excellent ham dinner and then watched 'Seabiscuit.'
Sunday, the 26th: Drove to Prescott, AZ (pronounced Press-Kit in Arizonian). Prescott had some cute little gift shops and such and we had lunch there. After spending the day there, we drove back to my parents, had leftovers and watched 'Collateral.'
Monday, the 27th: Last day in town *sob.* Woke up, packed, went to breakfast and then back to the shop we were at Christmas Eve. Bought more Christmas ornaments and bric-a-brac. Drove to Vegas, stopping in some shops at Boulder City and the outlets in Vegas. Then, I was dropped off at the airport. :( :( :(
Tuesday, th 28th: Arrived in cold Columbus that morning. Went home, showered, unpacked, watched half of 'Sex and the City, season 6.' went to sleep.
Wednesday, the 29th: Piddled around the house, watched Ohio State win the Alamo Bowl.
Thursday, the 30th: Drove up to Michigan to exchange gifts with my brother and his family. Had dinner, played with neice. Spent the night.
Friday, the 31st: Up at 5:30 a.m. because of the baby neice. That's ok. We played until about 11 when I left to drive home. New Year's Eve night, we were going to some bars on the north end of town. We didn't want to drive so we got a hotel room up there. It's weird getting a hotel room in the same city you live. Anyway, celebrated New Year. I was back in the room and asleep a little past 1 a.m.
Saturday, the 1st: Nothing but watched bowl games.
Sunday, the 2nd: Piddle around before my first day back to work.
So that was it. My trip in a nutshell. Hurray to not having anything to do at work to type this all up. That is one of my New Year's resolutions though: GET A NEW JOB!!
