The Veto--once, not just an American Myth. Thinking that charity can be a government venture is a contradiction in terms. Charity can only exist where the contributions are voluntary (for a Biblical reference, see the Parable of the Widow's Mites in Matthew), and that's the only time it has any moral significance. "Government charity" is just a euphemism for wealth redistribution, as the contributions are coerced (i.e., if you don't pay your taxes to support welfare, FEMA, and other "charitable" government endeavors, men with guns will come and throw you in jail).

Or, as the classic anti-statist formulation correctly puts it, "Compassion ends at gunpoint."

Not women? This is all clearly an effect of the white male patriarchy! See, if we had a matriarchy, there would be no male-induced violence in our society to worry about. Even the Bible you purportedly quote is misogynist and chauvinist!

I'm sure such proponents of matriarchy like the womyn I drove behind yesterday with the PMS: Punish Men Severely and I Wasn't Born a Bitch Men Like You Made Me This Way bumper stickers would help run an egalitarian utopia where violence is relegated purely to herstory. ;-)
