Having finally got off my ass and done what I promised, here's a portion of my GoF review (cut into sections to prevent your eyes glazing over. Next bit will be up...um, soon, I hope!)

Goblet of Fire, DVD Chapters 1-6 )

Apologies for the length! :o Just think, if I weren't posting from work it'd be longer...

At first I found David Tennant in GoF hot like apparently the rest of fandom, but slowly he began to annoy me with his hamminess (although a lot of this could be the character changes to Crouch Jr. I’ve only seen one episode of Dr. Who, so I really can’t judge properly, but to be honest, I think it’s him that sucks.)

Oh HELL No. Complaining that an actor in the HP movies is too hammy? How DARE you. ;)

I have to see more of Tennant's work myself; I did enjoy him in Bright Young Things. But let's face it, he looks good in leather!

Rupert Grint plays as if Ron genuinely doesn’t fancy Hermione in this film

Or any of the films, honestly - they have no chemistry together. As to whether or not Grint has general problems in connecting with other actors in a scene (as you suggest further down in your post), I'll wait to see Harold and Maude...NOT! Driving Lessons before I form an opinion on the matter.

Fred and George really are two of the most fanonised characters in these films....in four films, there’s not been more than a hint of the nastiness they seemingly can’t disguise for more than a sentence in the books.

It's laughable, the difference between the movie and the book versions. Obviously the WB doesn't think having overtly vicious scumbags as the "good guys" would sell; your point about how taking character actions/behaviors from the 2-dimensional page to the 3-dimensional screen makes those actions/behaviors more "real" to an audience is a good one. As for covertly vicious scumbags...we'll see how Hermione plays out in OOTP!

I kinda love Jason Isaacs. He’s picked the whole ‘Lucius is a shitty dad’ thing (this time poking Draco in the stomach with his cane for boasting about sitting in the Minister’s box) and dammit he’s sticking to it. And YOU aren’t gonna change his mind! Heh.

I get such a kick out of how Certain Segments of Fandom get all bent out of shape because the actors don't give a flying fuck how their character behaves in the books. Why SHOULD they? They get a script, they're asked to do a job, they do it. Most of these actors have been doing their jobs for far longer than Rowling has been writing books - and let's be frank, this isn't fucking Shakespeare. It's an easy paycheck, the Sirs & Dames have fun with it, it's all good. (Funny that Alan Rickman, who has been known to confer with Rowling on the finer points of his character, is the one adult actor who really gives off an onscreen vibe of wishing he were somewhere else.)

You know, everyone notes how Emma Watson acts with her eyebrows, but I can’t say I’ve noticed them myself. Everytime she’s onscreen, I’m already transfixed by her over-emphasising every word.

Are you kidding? Those eyebrows were the hardest-working actors on the set! Damn, Slink. ;)

Word on the over-emphahsis, though. It says a lot that both Radcliffe & Grint have movies coming out, while all Watson has to show for herself are photos littered throughout the Internet of her drinking Corona. So much for Girl Power...

To be honest, if it wasn’t Teh Sacrilege, I’d suggest cutting Oldman/Sirius out of GoF entirely

They might as well have - that bit in the flames was such a bloody ripoff! Both for Oldman AND his fans.

I liked an interview I saw with the actress playing Fleur, where she was saying how the character was pretty much the British stereotype of a French girl.

Wait until she finds about the crap Fleur has to put up with in HPB!

Well, if I were Snape and had to be surrounded by idiots all day long, I'd be wishing I were somewhere else too!

Heh, if Rickman was acting like that in character, I'd not be complaining! My point was that he can't even fake the enthusiasm for the role - his boredom shines through onscreen.

I used to think it was just me, since so many peeps totally adore Rickman's take on Snape. But I've found others on LJ who feel the same way I do, so I KNOW I'm not crazy.

Hahaha, you never have to apologise for length with me, I don't know the meaning of concise (I always feel kinda guilty jabbing at Rowling's flabby books, but hey, I'm not paid for this.)

Complaining that an actor in the HP movies is too hammy? How DARE you. ;)

Heh, I haven't even gotten onto Rickman, yet!

As for covertly vicious scumbags...we'll see how Hermione plays out in OOTP!

I accidentally left it out of my predictions list, but I imagine the Mutilator and Crucio Dude (I love those nicknames!) are going to be altered somewhat.

Seriously. Details that aren't part of your job, while interesting, really aren't relevant.
I used to study acting for a while, and it cracked me up how even if you were playing a totally minor character, there'd be people who'd say 'Well, my backstory is that I'm a Piscean, my parents are divorced, my favourite colour is yellow...'
I mean, great and all, but Ralph Fiennes knowing that Tom Riddle lived at an orphanage and is the heir of Slytherin really doesn't affect whether or not he can act, same as Radcliffe or Watson or Fangirl #578 knowing all the trivia in the world doesn't make them fun to watch.
If the script says 'Be angry' or 'scared' the fact your character in the original text is 'sympathetic' or 'stoic' is pretty meaningless. (I love how personally the people take it, too - I mean, there's always 'So and so improvised X line' trivia on every movie, but it's like they think it's an exam and Gambon or whoever just walks in and starts bull-shitting, when he really should have studied; rather than that there's a writer.)

all Watson has to show for herself are photos littered throughout the Internet of her drinking Corona.

Heh, I think those pictures of her make me like her more than her acting. She always has bitchface, and it's kinda cute.

that bit in the flames was such a bloody ripoff! Both for Oldman AND his fans.

I wondered whether maybe he was difficult about money or something - I think there were rumours that he was hard to sign up for OotP for the same reason?

My only beef with those shots is that she's drinking bloody Corona, because I'm such a beer snob. ;) She's got money - she can afford to track down some fucking Modelo and drink THAT if she wants Mexican beer, dammit! Corona is crap!

Although I've noticed that American beers are brewed very differently for the UK market - there's a higher alcohol content and in many cases an actual a different taste. Perhaps that's the case w/Mexican beers too...?

Re: Gary Oldman - I heard those rumours too. I suspect that once Gary realized that his character wasn't going to be in all the movies - meaning he wouldn't be making the £££/$$$ he may have expected when he initially signed on - he lost enthusiasm for the project.
