I've heard things about Peaky Blinders and how it was very similar in tone to Boardwalk Empire. The shows are very similar: they're pieces about gangsters in the early 20th century (Peaky Blinders is set in the late teens, after WWI, and Boardwalk is set in the 20s). Peaky Blinders is supposed to be a show about the gang with the same name in Birmingham. But the show felt aimless to me. I mean, it's really pretty, and there's an awesome Jack White (and friends) soundtrack, but there wasn't a clear theme or goal. I kept hearing about fixed horse races and a gun, but I felt there was no real progress to the fixed horse races or this gun a lot of people are interested in.
And I could've sworn one of the characters had a Liverpudlian accent.
I'll pass and stick with Boardwalk Empire. At least I know where Boardwalk's going, and this show is still great after four years, which is what few shows can say after four years.
