So I ran away to Northern California with some friends, Lee specifically, last week. Why? My own short time off mid-semester to get away from the deadlines, ringing phones, added stress of everyday things... chucked away in the middle of school just to be free.
Rather than give a day by day report which you'd probably expect here are only a few highlights...
We went to the Winchester Mystery House, took the tour, but found more enthusiasm for the player piano in the giftshop. Put a quarter in and get 3 minutes of good ol' saloon pianie-playin' (yes, pianie. Not piano).
Visited the Palace of Fine Arts, the Exploratorium, Pier 39, a few of the MANY sex shops of the Castro, the Metreon (comic book/anime/gaming lover mini-Mecca), a winery and drove all over the place. Also got a picture of my door. :)
Went to the Charles Schulz Museum, coincidentally on the first day of their new art exhibit, Found in Translation: pictures that were a combination of Kanji and Peanuts characters, they were just awesome.
Here's one, "I Am With a Friend":
While looking at the work I was wondering to myself what some of the symbols translated to. How fortunate we were when suddenly the artist, Yoshiteru Otani, showed up and started explaining his work and what it all meant. He autographed a postcard for me. He was wearing a white suit with Snoopy prints and his face embroidered on it. So chic. ^_^
Picked up some Rogue Ale for Brandon's and my 7 month-iversary (sentimental reasons for the ale) as well as a few porters and lagers and a bottle of Mead. I'm already expecting to get torn apart for that bottle too.
Not one day did we have disappointing food. We ate the most amazing Danish food in Solvang, some crepes at a Squat and Gobbles and a few other places. No, I didn't get any Chinese food in Chinatown, but we did have Japanese on Castro St.
Since it was such a worry to select family members and friends of my safety, we stayed at my aunt's house in San Fran and with Alan's cousins in Santa Rosa, mid-Wine Country. I was nowhere in the ghetto and I was safe and fine. So please don't worry, anyone out there who called all over looking for me.
