Currently in Manchester

I am in Manchester now at the city Library, but I want to tell you about the weekend. My Aunt Julie and Uncle Gareth took me to Malham cove, which, in the days of the glaciers, was a waterfall - and would have been the tallest one in England (we think). The village of Malham was lovely at this time of year - the autumn colours are coming through, and we saw robins in the cottage gardens. Walking the half mile to the cove, there are sheep, cows and dry stone walls everywhere. At the bottom of the cove, my aunt found a log and tree roots full of coins stuck in them. You wouldn't notice them usually unless you took a closer look.
Seeing the Dales was lovely. My uncle is a birdwatcher (as am I, but  not as dedicated) and I spotted a kestral on a tree on the slope near the Cove.  Peregrine falcons are said to nest there, but not often and we saw none.

On the drive home, we went over the Dales via Arncliffe and Kilnsey and saw some absolutely stunning landscape - (my camera battery died so i missed it!). We stopped at Ilkley and my uncle and I bought our monthly issues of Fortean Times and then I found a great gift shop and got something for my sis and her housemate.

That night, my cousin Jenny and her partner Matt were going to be in Leeds at a 30th, so i got the train it at 8pm and joined them. It was a great catch up after 4 years.
Missed the last train going to Guiseley that night so got a cab! bit of cash used there, but I did not even buy drinks that night - other people bought them for me!!

On Sunday it was more of a lazy day. Gareth's birthday was on Thurs so we went out to lunch with his family today. 8 of us dined at a pub near Blubberhouses (north of Otley and Pool and west of Harrogate) and I had Roast Grouse with whiskey cream sauce and vegetables - only because i never have before - I did not love it, but at least I've had it now!! (the vegies were dull boiled beans, carrots and swedes, and new potatoes were nice and the whiskey sauce had no flavour and was very watery..)

That night we sat in, relaxed and had scrambled eggs with parsley, leek, and mushrooms.

This morning I was out of the house at 7.30, wandered round Guiseley at dawn for a bit before I caught the 8am bus towards Leeds. I got off at Kirkstall Abbey (again, 4 years later) and then got into Leeds and had a lovely cooked breakfast at Leeds Station. Got the 10.40 train to Manchester and wandered round till I ended up here at the City Library!

I must say Manchester is lovely!! Such a magnificent city! I am glad I have finally seen it! Now I should get in touch with cousin Jenny...
