Little Twinge of Fear and Uncertainty.

Every once in a while I think about how I should begin saving for retirement. How I should start planning. Though of course I haven't been able to find the little bit of extra money that would begin a retirement fund. Every time I save a little, some emergency comes up, because I haven't been able to save addional extra for emergencies, that ( Read more... )

I like this entry, I can relate in many ways. It is kind of like you read my mind!

I also, can never save money... Just recently I got my student loan and was planning on saving like... 2 thousand. I was doing great for like a week... Then my car needed a repair, then another, then the head gasket broke so now I need a new car, and my computer got fried so I got a new one of those (not to mention it was 7 years old). Suddenly I have no money! I am glad all that crap happened when it did so that I did have money to pay for it all...

That is very sad about that 70 year old lady... And quite a reality check, because that is happening all over the country. Situations like that. I think that the media has alot to do with todays financial woes. The media, consumerism. Consumerism drives people to work an insane amount of time to make all they money they can to buy shit to elevate their status. We working poor can hardly make ends meet and the media drives into our skulls that we need more, we need to buy more things. We need to go to Starbucks, we need a new car payment, Lucky brand jeans, expensive make-up, Ipads, Ipods.... And so on.

You know the people running the company we are working for have tons of money, when they are laying people off it is not because they are going under, it is just that the CEO's are afraid they are not going to get as large of a bonus. Then half the crew gets laid off and you are left thankful you have a petty job and they make you do more work, more hours and no change in money. When you ask for a raise they tell you that you are just lucky you still have this job, then they go to their pools and drink martini's.....

And about the having children... I think it so cruel for the child if a person goes and has kids and cannot financially support them.... Poverty is a factor in an insane amount of mental illness, drop outs, crime....

Well, thankfully we all have the freedom of choice to spend our money or not on what is advertized to us.

It's pretty easy to make sure you think twice before you spend. Do you really need that new DVD? Even if it is only $5, for example, as I recently made a few purchases this way.

My company has said no one is getting bonuses especially the higher ups so that more people can keep their jobs in this economic strain. That also means no one gets raises either, but I am left with a feeling of gratefulness for the beneifts the job provides me. I just wish I liked it more than just for the benefits.

I don't know how much better off financially we'd be if we limited the amount of children we can have per family as other contries do. If we didn't spend the money on kids or attempt to, many would still find a way to make themselves broke. So I'll just mainly concentrate on bettering myself financially, and not worry so much about what I cannot control.
