i don't know if this discussion has been up a million times, or if i have just missed something in canon, but...

the Dear Mello on the back of Mello's photo? who wrote it, and why? and why does Mello narrow his eyes when he reads it?

( you know, in my head, it's Near who's been trying to declare his long, and undying love for Mello, but never got

That´s one of the many mysteries of Death Note.But everyone here have a point or two.
My opinion is...I wonder how Near got the pic at first place.Roger gave to him to help his investigation or he had it someway(Maybe stole from Mello?)If Roger did it,maybe it could be from some kind of WH yearbook(Since looks like it was taken on the garden)maybe every photo have a saying behind?

But putting to the MN side,if he didn´t asked for or stolen it,Mello let him took the photo.How did Mello knew he had the photo?Maybe one of the two last options.We don´t know really how was their relationship fully on the past.Maybe they got along some time,aside the rivalry.

Then finally,why Near wrote it?As far I know,he admired Mello for qualities he hadn´t.He is important to Near at many aspects.Same goes to Mello.One thing in common with both is that they don´t seem to know how express their feelings exactly.Near expressed it on little things,be the photo or be the doll.About the chocolate,can be a way to say "I wanna fill your absence" or "I miss you".

That´s some of my thoughts.
