Merry headed over to Freida's room still munching on surgery yum-yums while carring a small package. Merry knocks on the door and waits for someone to open it.
Oh man... Freida slips off her bed, hastily throwing a robe on, and heads to the door. She already knows she looks like crap, and in an instant the person outside is going to know it, too. She finds it hard to care.
"Merry? C'mon in. Forgive the mess."
And the place is a mess. What was always a busy-looking if chaotic room has simply become a pigsty. Someone's been eating a lot of take-out by the looks of it.
Merry looks at the mess, at Freida, and every question she had come to ask are replaced with new ones, "Freida? Are you ok?" Merry doesn't wait before moving to give Freida a hug of friendship and support.
Merry lets go and looks about the room, "Do you have a new roommate? The room just does't look like it used to. Are you sure you're ok? Do you want to talk, or help cleaning up? How was break?"
"A room-mate?" Until now, the thought hadn't even occured to her. Maybe if I got a room-mate, a new kid that needs shown around... She blinks a few times, trying to home in on Merry again. "Sorry I'm so spacey. Nah, all this mess is mine. Break sucked. How was yours?"
"I missed Ash. Got a headache from hell at church. Might be able to talk my mom into letting me go to a circus camp near where Ash lives for part of the summer." Merry takes a chair and perches on the back of it. "What happened?"
Freida laughs, and it's good Merry can't hear her. It's a hollow, almost frightening sound. "Nothing much. I broke off the wedding and Spindle left Rowan. That's all."
Merry might be able to hear the tone, but she could see Freida's eyes. The chair toples to the floor as Merry bounces off of it to give Freida another hug, "I don't want to pry, but I want to help. Tell me or don't. I could stay here if you want, move in for a while my roomy won't miss me. Maybe we can get a lift into town for icecream. I could teach you to juggle. You name it."
At the second hug and the offer of a room-mate, Freida starts crying. She tries not to, but the tears come and come, soaking the shoulder of Merry's shirt. Eventually she starts laughing again, though it's hard to tell the difference. "I'd be awful to live with right now, and you'd pocket all my sparklies! But ice-cream... Hold on a sec."
She pulls away long enough to get a certain box of chocolates from her desk. It's already about half empty. "Let's eat!"
Merry waits till Freida sits down, then sits facing her, even if she has to sit on the same piece of furniture to do it. Yeah, personal space, the little hug-monster has no concept of it at times. "Worse than a redcap? I hate seeing my friends upset, so you name it you got it. I would give all your sparkles back when I realized it. Freida, speaking of piskey sticky fingers, I need some advice." Not what I wanted to ask her about but, don't want to ask her about dating things now... and I still need advice on this.
Merry takes a piece of chocolate, "Ash no. Wasn't me this time either. Elle, she gave me a gold medal she picked up at the meet. I really really appreciate that she things I deserved gold, and well were piskeys, it happens. I don't like returning gifts, but I want to get the medal back to the girl that won it, without hurting Elle's feelings or getting anyone in trouble." Merry inhales almost for the first time after starting to explain.
"And you're sure Elle didn't buy it for you, like at a medal shop?" Freida shakes her head. "Of course you're sure or you wouldn't be asking. Here's the thing. You can't send it back and neither can anyone at Rowan. It'll make you look bad if the postmark is from around here. We'll have to find a way to mail to from somewhere else. That's not so hard. What's hard is finding the girl again. Do you have any ideas who she is?"
"Then we have to make some discrete inquiries. Real discreet." Freida leans back on the bed, thinking for a minute. "Are there gymnastic forums on the internet where some of the winners might hang out? We could ask some questions there, get a..." She swallows. "Get a Nocker to cover our trail electronically."
Merry frowns, "I wish we could just use magick some how. Figure out who it goes to and then just hopscotch it there or something. But you have a plan. I thought of just giving it to Sir Gunther, I don't think we would get in any trouble. It would be like punishing a pooka for lying right?"
"Merry? C'mon in. Forgive the mess."
