Thoughts on my new job

First and foremost: I like this job. It's not what I expected, but it's interesting, it's fun, and I feel like I'm doing something worthwhile. In my first two months (that's it?) I have been:

Data entry peon (actually, still doing that, yay records from 1997). OK, so that's not fun, but it is important and kind interesting.

Database developer. In Access, I'll grant, I'm not writing it in Ruby from scratch but as someone who took CS5 and that's it, I'm pretty pleased with myself. Also, the online Microsoft training powerpoint is actually pretty good.

Trainee. (Duh, new girl.)

Trainer. (Uh, I've done this once, but here we go!)

Instrument validator. Still working on this, but it's not me, it's the instrument. Also, I'm way rusty on my stats.

Materials engineer. We needed to test a lot of bags from a supplier. So I shoved them underwater to see if they leaked, then filled them with compressed air until they exploded. If you know me, you can imagine what that sounded like (*bang* eeeee!). That amused the whole lab.

And last but not least: backup immunologist. Still got a lot of training to do before I can start taking a lot of the lead here, but the cytometers here are kinda weird, so that's OK too.
