Sean Connery to racial profiling in 2 easy steps

Many, many years ago my friend Kristyn and I watched "The Hunt for Red October" while babysitting my brother. I don't know how old I was, but I do know that much of the movie made no sense because I didn't understand anything about the Soviet Union, except that it was gone. But one of the scenes that really struck me was a conversation between the captain (Sean Connery) and his first officer talk about what they want to do in America, once they defect. The first officer wants to move to Montana, marry a large woman and raise rabbits. He also expresses pleasure that he could travel around without any papers.

I remember being struck at the idea that there were places where you couldn't just go to the next state whenever you felt like it, particularly as I went to the next state at least every week.

But now, if you want to go to Arizona, you have to prove you're allowed to be here. Well, in theory. Mostly you have to prove it if you look like you're of Central or South American extraction. Which is blatant racial profiling.

I'm pretty sure this law will go down in flames, but I wonder how many tourists, either from outside the US or just outside Arizona, are going to get screwed before it does.

What ever happened to "better dead than Red"? 'Cause ya'll are looking like Soviets from here.
