this is what's going on : i am asking some questions like : what
is, really, the CRL? Should this be a gallery space only? Where is
the Creative? The Research? What kinds of experiments can we
conduct in the Art and Art History Department's Laboratory?

What happens if we make the CRL available to people who really want
a space do create and show original work, whatever form it takes?
How can we make the Lab a space for something more than just a
gallery?(yeah, i don't feel like spending the whole fall putting together
predictable and polished faculty shows)

I want to make the space in the Fall schedule for something unexpected, experimental, i don't know, anything floats, really
for the first two weeks in october - like, 3 weekends and the two
weeks in between October 2 - 17

*Open call for art. For art making. Multiply the functions of the
CRL. Open the space up for anyone who wants to do something in the
space. Anyone who wants to bring their art, put in on the wall ad invite
their friends to see it (why should sharing your art be a privilege?)

*24 hour drawing marathon

*collaborative work of all kinds, the whole College of Fine Arts,
The School of Architecture, Radio, Film and Television Department etc.

*Engage the art groups that have appeared on the map in the past
couple of years - Camp Fig, Fresh Up Club, Bolm Studios, Red Door Studios,
Asstudios (can these folks also tell our students how they became involved? How they pay rent? What they do after graduation?

*Center for Young Cinema (former Cinemaker)
Public screenings
Cinematexas screening of “Best of 2004”?
Aurora Picture Show? Student shows from RTF?
Microcinema from Houston?
Community mixers?

*Gallery talks - how do you run a gallery? How do you start a

Gallery?
What do you in a Museum? (Annette Carlozzi, Sue Graze, Dana
Fris-Hansen
Collectors (Don Mullins, Julie Thornton)

*Slide-talks
Faculty, grads, what’s on file in Flatbed)

*Stitch and Bitch

*Local magazines: Cityfold, Feedback

*Poetry readings, poetry jams

*Who else from the College of Fine Arts has ideas for things to
do/see/hear?
What art is made by grads and undergrads in San Antonio/Houston?
Can we send a pick-up truck to find out and bring it here for a weekend?

A student fashion show?

Elementary & High schools on field trips coming to make art?

Which bands want to play here? Djs?
like, there is so many awesome bands just in the Art dept. that i would love if they could come over and play

what needs to happen now is to write down some sort of a press release, something people can forward to each other over the email, also the word of mouth.

I'd like to get an idea of what form this could take. how many projects we can do. what kinds of people are interested.

the first weekend (Oct.2) we could just let people come hang art, or start with the marathon, or - some people from trasnmedia already said they wanted to do a happening sometime

i think all art would be hung salon style, like at some point during those two weeks, i'd like to see the whole place covered floor to celing with stuff

every project would be built on traces the previous projects have left, like an organic growth

i think we need places for people to crash, like bales of hay, i mean, i'd like this whole thing to be called the HEYDAYS
