Gingerbread is a sassy book about a sassy teenager named Cyd Cherisse who has been kicked out of boarding school for being wild. She happened to be sent to boarding school because she was wild also. And she is wild. She is fourteen and carries around a rag-doll she named Gingerbread since she was five. She received the doll as a present from her real dad when she met him for the first and last time at the Dallas airport. She has a boyfriend named Shrimp and a best friend named Honey who is a nursing home resident. She also has a big secret. While this book is often laugh-out-loud funny, Cyd is very sophisticated and has some real tough issues. By Rachel Cohn
