My eyes are terrible. I've needed corrective lenses since I was about 7 or 8. I'm also terribly vain, so as soon as my parents allowed me to have contacts, at about 13 or 14, I jumped on it. I've worn them ever since.
However, contacts don't give me perfect vision. Currently, I have one lens for distance and one for closeup and neither one is 20/20 and I have astigmatism. It's perfectly fine for most things in life, like reading, driving, and using the computer. My glasses correct beautifully, but I only wear them at home, for a short time each day.
One of the great pleasures in my life is embroidery. Over the past couple of years I've realized that I just can't see the threads for counted work when I'm wearing my contacts, so I've abandoned a number of projects. This makes me so sad.
I realized I just needed a magnifier, but the only ones I had were hand-held, so I would check placement, take a stitch, and check again. Not exactly fun.
Yesterday I bought a pair of drug store reading glasses. What a difference! I can actually see the threads again! What I really need is a pair of half-glasses (they didn't have any), so I can read my chart over the top, but for now, I'll take this.
