Aerial Class

Despite feeling old and creaky, it was a good class. Instead of doing different climbs, we had to do different descents. I did a between-the-silks descent, which is weird, since you control it entirely with your legs. I also managed to burn a patch of skin right below my right inside ankle. It's all wet & gross. Then I got into position for an upside-down descent. Thet one's getting better, but I still can't do it in the air.

Those who knew it practiced a tick-tock. Those would didn't just got into the wrap: double-crochet, then sit up, bring each tail to the front and double-crochet again. Then there was supposed to be a 360, but I still can't get into a double-crochet in the air.

Last silk move was a rebecca wrap into a windmill. I was doing okay until I had to take the footlock off. It's very difficult to remove a figure-8 footlock when upside down. No wonder everyone else used a figure-4. Which I then had to practice.

Moving onto the trapeze, we tried foot flags. I had unsuccessfully tried this a year ago. It took 3 tries, but I got it this time (only losing a little skin off one shin). Sitting on the bar, one ankle is pressed up against the rope at the elbow, same side hand grabs the opposite rope in a flamenco grip. Other hand goes on top so thumbs are touching. Push free leg over and roll around yourself. Sit on bar again. And you can go from there into a gazelle. I still have a very nice gazelle.

Everyone decided they wanted to do their favorite trapeze tricks, since M2 just learned a hip roll. M1 wanted to practice a Montreal, and M3 really likes the rajah. Since J. said today (besides being pointy-toed Tuesday) was for twisting into uncomfortable positions on the trapeze. I did a seahorse. It's *much* less comfortable than on the sling, but quite impressive. Getting out of it was less than graceful. After K. did a flag, I did one too. I'm a show off.

No class next week. I'm going to be in NYC for the day. J. wants me to go to an open practice to make it up. Might not be bad to just play on the trapeze for a while.
