Exhausting class last night. I ache today in ways I haven't in quite a while. It was all silks all the time. It was also Pointy-Toe Tuesday. Not one of my problems. And it was slow day - that is, we were supposed to move slowly in the poses. That one is one of my problems.
We started with the
same-side knee hook and then worked on turning it into a thigh lock. I got it a few times, but mostly kept sliding down to the mat. I don’t even remember where we were supposed to go after that. Then we worked on the
opposite-side knee hook, which sort of turns into a hip key. After a few tries I gave up and just worked on hip keys. M3 (all the other students have names that start with M...) totally mastered it of the course of class. Gives me hope.
Then we worked on
double-crochet stuff with an aim to do as many things as possible up there. I still can’t invert in the air, so my repertoire was limited. I worked on the bird’s nest drop, but I was so low, I just dropped my butt right on the mat.
Lastly we paired up for a little game. The Dancing Ladies call this "I went to Pennsic and I learned..." One of us would do a trick, then the next one would do that trick and add a new one, &c. All moves had to be based on a footlock. I was paired with M3, since we're about at the same level right now. She started with a
candy cane roll-up and later admitted she’d missed the additive part of the instructions and would have started with something less strenuous. I added a
stag layback. She did a
clothesline (which is terrifying with sweaty hands). I added a
layout. And I was done. The other pair did their sequence to music at which point I was recovered enough to run through our piddly 4 moves.
Best part of class, I did situps on the trapeze and my mount is almost beautiful again.
No class next week. There are a couple of open practices, but I think I'm going to enjoy the free evening instead.
