You've pretty much hit the nail on the head with something that's been bothering me for ages. I'm REALLY sick of people having this attitude of, "if you like this book/movie/whatever that means you're stupid." I'm sure the internet has increased that attitude tenfold, given that people can say whatever they want and to them the stranger who likes whatever IS an idiot because all they know about that person is that he/she likes this or that.
It's the main reason why I now avoid Star Wars forums, since announcing to Star Wars fans on the internet that I like the prequels is like tattooing "I'm a moron" to my forehead. Hell, even saying George Lucas is anything other than an evil moron determined to piss off "true" Star Wars fans is tattooing "I'm a moron" to every part of my body.
And as you know, I like Avatar too. I don't give a fucking SHIT if Pandora was created with CGI. That does NOTHING to undermine how downright AMAZING it is. It's a movie that creates its own world (regardless of whether or not the story is original). And BESIDES, sharing elements with other stories doesn't make it a bad movie if the story is done WELL.
