Writer's Block: I Love Lucy

I don't watch too much TV, but when I was younger I always loved Mad About You's couple, Paul and Jamie Buchman. They were fairly loving towards each other, had a cool dog named Murray, and by the end of the show had a kid that they named Mable- which was a nickname my father had for me when I was younger.
They argued, like other sitcom couples, but it didn't seem mean spirited to me. I think I liked them because they always seemed to still love and respect each other.
This is just how I remember it though.

Ricky and Lucy on the other hand...I don't think were a "great" TV couple. Popular, yes. After watching the show recently I realized almost all the jokes revolve around Lucy doing something stupid, Ricky catching her and punishing her in some way or another. The show constantly enforces the belief that women cannot do anything on their own, not even manage their own money- as Lucy has an "allowance." Every time she attempts to work on her own it turns out horribly, example: The Chocolate Factory scene.
granted, none this was not considered chauvinistic when the show was filmed. I understand why the show is hilarious, and love it at times too. I don't understand why people don't see, or don't care, about the reoccurring theme of male domination over those silly women folk.
