my niece and i were kinda crazy as kids. i mean, with the games that we played/made up.

when we played with our barbies, we made 'movies'. not happy ones with barbie going to the ball, mind you. no. we did like, horror films with plots such as barbie and her friends go on a ski trip and one of them falls off the mountain and dies.
my favorite game we made up was called Anastasia the Mutterer. we played that with my dollhouse people and this happy meal toy-sized Anastasia doll they had to promote the movie. late at night, when the dollhouse family was sound asleep in their beds, that's when terror would strike in the form of the notorious Anastasia the Mutterer. she would come in the house. she would creep up the stairs. she would sneak into the bedrooms ever so quietly and stand at the foot of the bed...and then, she'd start muttering. the dollhouse family would wake up at her mumbling under her breath and see her there and they'd scream, pack up all their belongings and drive away in their van to a seedy motel under my kitchen table. they'd settle in, thinking they were safe, when she'd show up again. and that was the game: no matter where the dollhouse family sought safety, Anastasia the Mutterer was there to prove that no place was ever truly safe.

my other favorite game was called Bills. my niece and i were famous movie stars or singers or whatever, and rich as all heck. but then we'd make a list of things that we had to pay bills for. it went from possibly real stuff, like lights and gas, to the freakishly insane, like a bathtub use bill. so our list grew to like 30 of the 'freakishly insane' things, and we couldnt pay the bills, so we had to live in our limo.
another game we played as the 'famous movie stars or singers or whatever, and rich as all heck' was Pretend We Dont Know Each Other. that game told the beginning of the two's lovely, if not rocky, relationship as two ego-centric bffs.

bet ya didnt know, barbies, anastasia (the animated film), childhood
