Mom can take Rocky but the sidewalk wins

So last week the grandmother of a dear old (time in, not age) friend passed away. She was 93 and lived to see her grandkids grown and 5 great-grandkids so it was as okay as death can be. I attended the visitation Thursday night and the funeral on Friday afternoon. I know the whole clan and was glad to have the chance to pay my respects and offer my condolences.

Saturday I attended the Indy race at Richmond with Carey, Frank and two of Frank’s coworkers. It was okay. Indy is very boring compared to NASCAR but the tickets were free and the company was excellent.

Sunday I was trying to nap (at F&C’s) in preparation for attending the Ratt Poison concert when Mom called. She had fallen and said that she had either broken or dislocated her left pinkie and possibly her cheekbone as well. I met her at the ER to collect Senior Nephew so that it was just Mom and Sister. Mom was there for 7+ hours. She has two breaks AND a dislocation in the pinkie but the cheekbone is good (however she does look like a losing prize fighter). They did an initial X-ray on the pinkie and cheek and three follow-up X-rays of the pinkie, each following a manipulation. The finger just won’t go fully straight and Mom has to see an orthopedic specialist this evening. They think she may have a tendon wedged between (?) and may require surgery. Say a prayer and keep her in your thoughts, please! She is 74 and arthritic so she is hurting a lot. Mom is the Queen of my personal universe and I want her back to full health ASAP.

I had planned on attending Assessments this weekend as a mini-dry run for Pennsic. I wanted to set up the new pavilion (14’x14’) and camp with Hotel de Byram who I have never camped with. I know I can set it up in the yard but it’s just not the same as sleeping in it at an event. Now I don’t know what is going to happen. It all depends on Mom and her pinkie. My plans for Independence Day are questionable too. So if you were/are planning on seeing me at Assessments or on Independence Day please stay tuned for further news.

assessments, mom, update
