So, I'm currently writing up a script for my animation, which involves having a book of fairytales (loaned by the awesome Nomi who is awesome)open in front of me while I write. Me being the procrastinator extrordinaire that I am, proceeds to read the next story in the book too
The Little Soldier (abridged)
There was a little soldier, returning home after war. With no family waiting for him, he was in no hurry and camped out in the woods many times on his journey. One night he happened upon an old castle, and after knocking with no response he let himself in.
Finding a fire going in the Parlor he sat down, when a snake with the head of a woman rose out of the fireplace. She told him she was a princess under a curse and that if he would help her then she would be his bride and they would live happily.
She was very beautiful, and the soldier was a good man so he agreed to help her. He had to retrieve her tunic from a room on the first floor. When he got there he saw flaoting pairs of hands in the room, holding rocks. He ran across the room to the closet the tunic hung in, being pelted with the rocks the whole time. He ran back to the fire and presented the tunic.
The snake appeared again, this time with the head and torso of a woman. She put on her tunic and asked that he go retrieve her skirt from the second floor. When he reached the room he saw floatimg arms, all holding clubs. he drew his sword as he entered the room, managing to defend himself and retrieve the skirt almost anharmed.
The snake then asked for him to find her slippers from the third floor so that she might be free from the spell. When he returned she gave him a glass of wine and told him to stay at a nearby inn overnight, she would pass at 8 in the morning the next day to pick him up.
For 3 days the soldier tried to wake at 8, and failed. Each day the innkeeper saw the carriage with the princess go past, and she left a bouquet of flowers and a scarf for the man on the first and second days. On the third she left forever. The soldier woke in time to see her leaving and chased after her, all the way to the ocean.
The carriage continued over the ocean, leaving the soldier stranded. A pretty young woman who lived nearby took pity on the man and gave him 2 treasures she had fished from the sea- A red cloak and a purse containing 50 gold coins. The soldier promised he would not forget her kindness and used the gold to board a ship.
he grew tired of the slow paced and wished he was at the princess' castle. The cloak transported him there in an instant, in time to see the carriage pass through the gates. He found that the purse he had been given always contained 50 gold coins, regardless of how often it was emptied, and bought jewel-encrusted clothes to impress the princess and her father.
The king was stunned by the soldier and offered his daughter's hand in exchange for the magic purse. The soldier agreed and was told to return at Easter for the wedding.
When he tried to return he was turned away by the guards. Realizing he was being tricked, he used the red cloak to appear in the princess' room, where she was making thousands of gold coins fall out of the purse. he took hold of her arm and wished them both to the ends of the earth.
She promised to mend her ways and fill her promise if only he would tell her how he managed to transport them. Happy with her words he told her of the cloak. While he slept she stole the cloak and returned to her room, leaving the man at the ends of the earth.
He determined to get back to the castle and make her pay for decieving him. He found some pears, gold and green. The gold ones made horns sprout from his head, while the green made them vanish. he took these with him, and used jewels fromhis robes to earn passage back to the country the princess was in.
Disguised as a merchant, he sold the gold pears to the frincess for 50 gold coins. When she grew horns, the king offered her hand to the man who could cure her. The soldier waited a few weeks to allow other to try and fail at curing her, then disguised himself as a doctor and gave her potion made from the green plums.
When the horns shrank he told her it wouldn't cure those with sins, and she confessed to stealing the purse. He took it from her and gave her some more potion, when the horns still only shrank a little she confessed to also stealing the cape and handed it to the doctor. He put on the cape and removed his disguise, telling her she was already too much like the devil to need his horns. He gave her the last of the potion, and wished himself back to the house of the young woman by the ocean.
He told her of all that had happened, and made to return her cloak and purse. She refused, saying that his story had proved that happiness didn't come with the magic items. he agreed, saying it came from good honest work with good people, and asked to stay with her by the ocean. She agreed, on the condition that the purse and cloak were thrown back into the ocean.
Yeah, I know that taking the time to write the whole damn thing out made the procrastination so much worse, but meh, consider it a bedtime story =p
Other news: uni work is boring, but I might just about have a script =O now to do all the other rubbish that I'm putting off doing... lol... T.T
