Author's notes: This was written for the prompt 'laugh' over at camelot_drabble and since everybody liked it so much, I thought I'd crosspost it here. *goes to hide right away*
As always, Merlin felt empty and alone when Arthur pulled out and rolled onto his side. Snuggling up against him from behind, Merlin wrapped an arm around Arthur’s waist. Nuzzling into the soft blond hair, a murmured “I love you” escaped him.
Arthur lay completely still for a moment and then laughed. He disentangled from Merlin’s hold and turned. “You’re not real, are you?”
Embarrassment burned high on Merlin’s cheeks and he couldn’t look at the other man. As quickly as possible, he got up and put his clothes back on. For a moment, he’d thought they had something going. Obviously he had been wrong.
Arthur’s laughter rang in his ears as he ran down the stairs.
