Even though he sounded amused, Merlin really cut to the bone here: “It would be great if you saw the booze- and pills-addict, too. The bloke who feels so good in his self-pity that he doesn’t care that all his friends can’t stand it anymore and stopped calling? The person who neglects all his other talents to cry over spilled milk? The guy who pushes everybody away so he can feel all lonely and forgotten by the world?” If Arthur doesn't come back it's going to be more because he refuses to face himself than that this ear-bloke isn't doing him any good. Merlin is trying to make Arthur work on Arthur, not just his injury.

He refuses to face himself for two years. All of this is everybody else's fault.
Merlin is a healer, he doesn't focus on one symptom, he tries to treat all of the patient ;)

Merlin practiced a little harsh medicine here, but Arthur needed to hear it. Perhaps, this will bring him out of funk, so that the true healing can begin. Loved it!
