A/N : A tribute to the two OTPs I have on 'Merlin'. They're soulmates and sometimes, that means that they don't end up together...
What I think about both pairings including Arthur/Gwen:
You can love more than one person at a time but there will always be one that you will love more, that you will feel closer to and want to spent time with them as much as possible.
(I'll completely ignore the farce that was 4x09 for L/G)
Gwen loves Lancelot more. It will always be like this. They have such a strong connection and that will never fade. The bracelet only brought to the surface the feelings she had burried inside of her because she doesn't want to hurt Arthur. (seriously writers, was that so complicated to show?..)
Arthur loves both Gwen and Merlin. There is no denying that he has strong feelings for her and he definitely loves her more than she does him. But, he spends all his time with Merlin, he confides in him and he's the one he trusts the most. Also, you cannot deny that there is love between them, no matter how you see it, it's there for everyone to see. You saw how he was insistant on not accepting that Merlin is gone. When it comes to him, I think Arthur will do anything to make him safe, no matter the consequences (he was ready to abandon the quest in 4x01).
Lancelot and Merlin are very similar. Lancelot knows that Gwen does return his feelings and she showed it to him several times. Merlin knows that Arthur cares about him. He was told by others, that he actually seem to care a lot more than he should. Merlin is still just a servant and Arthur is the King. Has their dynamic changed since Arthur becoming King? Yes it has, now Arthur is saying things that he couldn't before. He calls Merlin his friend and he sometimes seeks his councel. They've grown closer because now Arthur can be closer to him.
In short, Merlin is Arthur's soulmate while Gwen is Lancelot's. Soulmates are not always together because of either other people or for other reasons but in the end they'll always find their way back to each other.
