I've noticed in some ships the fans shorten their name for example for Clark and Chloe fans from Smallville, they have shortened the ship to Chlark. And again for an example from a crossover ship from Supernatural/ ( Read more... )

I've seen it called Arlin or Merthur, depending on the user preference ;D

Well, I've read Merthur a few times here, and I think Merlur as well.
Personally I'd go for "Marlin" ^_^ Sounds so nice... (and is a fish... I know... I somehow have this thing for naming my ships like food. Like "Pepperony" for Pepper/Tony (Ironman) )

Me too. It's one of my pet peeves. (Mostly because the smushes always sound so ... silly, to me.) Ah, well - each to their own, I guess.

I think kaitou1412 said it right, they sound like some kind of illness most of the time =/ (But at least there's only two main characters here, try dealing with 22+ ;))

22 really, wow that's a whole lot of characters to contend with.

I wouldn't. Any of the possibilites sound quite ridiculous. Not to mention that they're completely unnecessary really.

Agreed. I've yet to see a smushed pairing name that didn't sound silly (and Chlean sounds like something you'd use to kill germs in the loo...).

Honestly, if you're going to the trouble of writing a story, it's not that much more work to type out the pairing name in full (unless you write Slartibartfast/Beeblebrox or something :-))

Oh thank God I'm not alone in not wanting portmanteaus. Is it really that hard to type out both character's names?

Lol my first thought was 'Arthlin.' But I'll probably stick with just writing their names out~ There are so many variations!
