[Nearly jumps in surprise--he whirls around] ...nothing? Just ah...taking a walk 'round the castle grounds.
[After a pause, he belatedly hides the plate, full of various little tidbits he's snuck from the kitchens, behind his back with a sheepish look at Arthur]
[Said dogs whine at Merlin, smelling the food he's brought for them. He gives the closest one a reassuring pat on the head--don't worry, the prat's no idea what he's going on about, you aren't ruined--and places the plate on the ground for them]
They looked hungry, [Is all he offers Arthur in reply]
oh geez, as if he hasn't already had enough bad experiences with dogs XDtierceletFebruary 19 2011, 20:21:02 UTC
[Jerking--he'd felt that soft brush of magic around him--he stands, looking for the source. Then, he pales as he sees one of the pack approaching him, hackles up, growling]
Easy there. [He says soothingly, guessing it must have gotten spooked by the magic as well]
(Deep beneath a bench on the far side of the room, is this unhappy creature. He's currently being menaced by one of the midsized dogs, but the area he's crunched himself into is inaccessible to anything devoid of a cat's spine.
There are definitely some stressed murring sounds coming from the shadows beneath the bench, though.)

[The magic, it pulls him toward that bench. He feels the familiar tingle of his own magic, but he can't, for the life of him, figure out where it's coming from]
That's odd. What're you doing here? [He frowns at the dog and tugs it away from the bench]
...it was totally worth it to upload that 'never fear' icon for this.prideofcamelotFebruary 19 2011, 21:23:12 UTC
(Freedom!!!!
Once the dog's safely removed, he inches forward from beneath the bench to poke his head out from beneath it. A moment's looking back and forth, and then the cat follows the lines of Merlin's legs up to the sorcerer's face.
Oh thank god. Not daring to come further out from beneath the bench, the cat gives a bitterly unhappy sort of meow.)
it was. /shamelessly continues using ittierceletFebruary 19 2011, 21:32:19 UTC
[Well. That nearly has Merlin letting go of the dog's collar in surprise. Was that--? Yep...there's no mistaking the form beneath the bench.
After barricading the dog into the pens again, he inches forward, crouching to get a better look at the cat] What happened, Arthur? [He holds his arms open, a clear invitation]
