Orphan's Thanksgiving Day Menu

Nov 23, 2010 17:39

For those not keeping up, Orphan's Thanksgiving is always open invitation at Chez Entropy.

Yes it's only two days away, but the plans for T-day are now (finally) solidified. Iron Chef Michael Symon spent the day answering tday cooking questions, and I got a couple of great ideas from him so my usual fare menu is changing just slightly.

Things We Are Making:

  • Turkey -- going to try this one with a buttered cheesecloth. (not vegetarian)
  • Mashed Potatoes. (Vegetarian)
  • Dressing with wild rice and butternut squash (vegetarian)
  • Roasted butternut squash (with garlic and salt) (vegetarian)
  • Butternut squash bisque (served over optional lump crab) (can be vegetarian)
  • Pies. Pumpkin (and a gluten-free (i.e, crustless) pumpkin), French Silk, Chocolate Pecan. Something Else. I don't think we know exactly which. [Edit: something else turned out to be apple and lemon meringue.]

In addition, we might make fresh baked rolls. However if one of the guests wants to bring this, that would be fantastic. We also have a container of spring mix.

tersa will be bringing Green Beans of Her People. And maybe cran.
tyee will be bringing cran-orange something that sounds delish!
strider13 will be bringing an unspecified appetizer.

We could still use:
  • Other random veggie sides. The only veggie I really have planned is squash. There's a lot of squash in my plans this year. I'm on a squash kick, I guess.
  • Fixin's for the salad.
  • Non-pie dessert, perhaps. Something good for kids, like small cookies or other finger food desserts. Or ice cream is good here.
  • Sanity. I realize you can't buy that at Costco, which is why we've run low on it.
