Orphan's Thanksgiving

Oct 25, 2010 17:40

Once again, Entropy will host the usual Orphan's Thanksgiving. I suspect almost everyone who would want to come to this has already been to one, so I don't need to say much except to confirm that it's happening, but if I'm wrong on this, let me know and I will provide information. We'll start at 2pm on Thanksgiving. Actually, anyone who wants can ( Read more... )

I look forward to this every year, though don't presently know what I'll be making. Perhaps bread, maybe soup, I'll figure out in a week or two and let you know (or lemme know if slots get filled, if there's stuff you'd like brought!).

Hey, so what else do you guys need, at this point? I'm still torn about what to make; I did soup once and there was already some, I'm not sure if you're doing corn like in the past, or if anyone's bringing rolls, etc. Lemme know, looking forward to seeing you all!

I also might be bringing someone along, if that's ok; he works that day until like 5pm, so I may just head out with some leftovers for him, depending on how social he's feeling.

We've got plans for a delicious soup. I am NOT doing corn this time, so you could bring that if you wanted. If you do I always pick frozen sweet white corn.

We are planning on making rolls but if you want to claim that I can take it off our menu. I'm keeping the soup though because I'm interested in trying it out.

Here are the definites:

Butternut squash bisque (optionally served over crab)
Turkey (duh)
Mashed potatoes
Stuffing/dressing -- I may not be doing my usual. I am thinking of trying my hand at a wild rice dressing to change things up. Not sure yet.
Roasted butternut squash
Pie

Oh my god, that soup sounds _so_ good, I'll definitely step off on that. And go ahead with the rolls--I'm not sure which recipe or my timing or anything, and I'm forever running late, bread would just make me later. If I get inspired and do some anyway, who says no to more bread?

I'll definitely pick up some corn, though--will two bags be enough, or should I go for three?

I'm probably going to skip a Tofurkey this year, as I'll be the only vegetarian, and I never get through the whole thing. (I tend to prefer all the delectable sides, anyway) I might pick up some of the mushroom gravy, because it's delicious, but would looooove it if you'd do a veggie version of the stuffing, whichever kind you try out.

Since we're doing family thanksgiving Veterans Day weekend this year, we'll probably be there for dinner this year! Who knows what we'll bring. Probably cranberry-orange relish. And. Um. Something.

Oh. If you're going to bring cran as well, then p'rhaps I will stick to just the green bean casserole (good thing I checked back!)

Oh, no! I didn't mean for you not to! Especially since you usually do. I was just thinking there could be two kinds. But you definitely should.

I am working thanksgiving but only till 3 - so this is a possibility. I will consult with the other half. If nothing else we would want to come by and see folks at dessert time!
