An ambitious idea

On 21st September 2014 there will be an attempt to recreate the Hands around the Wrekin event that first happened in 1981. I participated as a child as it is very close to where I live and still have the badge to prove it. This time the event will aim to break 4 Guinness world records. Families, groups and individuals will hold hands around 3.6 miles of footpaths. Here is a link to the site where you can find out more

The Wrekin is one of Shropshire’s best known landmarks. It is a curious legendary hill that is 1335 ft tall and from the top you can see fifteen counties.

It has been suggested that the Wrekin may have been the inspiration for J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth in the series of books 'The Lord of the Rings, although this is subject to some debate.Tolkien lived in the West Midlands and visited the Shropshire landscape on a fairly regular basis.

My idea is for the Merlin family to be a part of it. What better way is there to immortalise our love of the show and the friendships that mean so much to us all than being part of 4 world record attempts. It will be an opportunity for us all to meet too. There will be plenty of opportunities to take photographs and if anyone is interested but can't attend I can add their names to my 'With us in spirit' flag. My flags will be part of it too though they might have to be worn as capes for the actual record attempts. Maybe we could get special t-shirts made for us to wear.I will be going anyway but having a Merlin Family group would make it even more special.

Let me know what you think either via here, Twitter or Facebook xx
