Whew! I love our show... ♥
That was obviously a real locations-intense episode, with snippets here and there and everywhere. It must have been even more work than usual for the actors and everyone else to keep a string of scenes coherent... Anyway!
♦ The usual wonderful use of the Chateau de Pierrefonds, the town set below the Chateau, and the sets in Cardiff. As noted before, Cenred's throne room is our Council Chambers set redressed.
♦ A fair number of the 'generic forest' scenes were in pine woods, which always make me think of the forests between Speech House Lake and the car park. In fact, the place where Merlin, Arthur and Gwaine camped for the night made me think of a particular spot just off the path through the woods - though I probably will never be able to prove that one way or another. And the locations could equally be Wenallt Woods, anywhere else with the right trees, or a mix of all the above! (Just as well I'm not totally obsessive about this, isn't it?! I'd drive myself mad.)
♦ The Druid's camp seemed to be in Clearwell Caves, though they either used a different angle on the same cavern we've seen before, or a different cavern entirely. This is something I'll try to confirm.
♦ I assume that Jarl the slave trader's castle was filmed at Chepstow Castle in South Wales, perhaps both the tower/pit the captured men were in and the exterior where we see our three heroes running away after escaping. But I haven't been to Chepstow yet, so hopefully will be able to confirm that soon.
♦ And we had a brief revisit to Puzzlewood, for the scene where Merlin, Arthur and Gwaine are entering the Druid's cave.
♦ Then the scenes where Leon and the expendable knights are watching Cenred's massive army march past, and then fight four of them on horseback - they were all filmed in an area just below the Chateau de Pierrefonds. Which I know cos I was lucky enough to watch! (From a distance, at least...)
And I have a couple of ideas re locations for next week's finale, but I'll save that for then! (Can't wait!!!) ♥
As usual, any input or ideas from my fellow Locations Geeks are always welcome.
