Winchester Great Hall- Arthurian Legend Location

Jan 05, 2010 23:03

The great hall in Winchester is the location of "The Round Table". It's not actually Arthur's round table- the location of that is still widely debated. However, the hall is home to the 5.5 metre diameter wooden table which weighs in at an alarming 1200kg.

Oh bless you! Aren't you wonderful...? :-D

I love Winchester - it's my favourite place in Britain (second only to whichever part of this green and pleasant land Colin happens to be upon, of course) - so it's a particular pleasure to see it featured in our comm!

Thank you so much for posting. ♥

Aw no problem ♥

Where else did you go? I was going to do a few more locations but if you've been there and recently - with video, that would be better. I was going to talk about Glastonbury and Cadbury Castle.

No problem :) I figured I've had these things lying around on the computer so I may as well share them around and see if anyone else finds them useful. I'm glad they have :D

In the interests of accuracy, I feel I should point out that there is also a large and very impressive sculpture of Queen Victoria in the Great Hall itself (just to the left of the Table Of Roundness) and there's a little exhibition thing attached to the hall which has a little information about Arthur and a lot about the table on the wall.

Also - sorry anyone who doesn't appreciate the complete madness of my report :P
