In Australia, the voting system uses
Instant runoff voting to determine the winner. I use this method to start with the people I dislike or think are completely useless, and end up with the candidate I hate the least.
Now while the system in place for the election of London's mayor is probably better than "
first past the post", it is a real shame that full preferential voting isn't used instead as no matter what your views, this election boils down to choice between Boris and Ken.
There are candidates I think would do a far worse job than either Boris or Ken (UKIP, Christian Peoples), and there are the less marginal candidates (Liberal Democrats, Green) who might have a chance if this wasn't such a clear Labour / Conservative battle. I would have liked to have slightly more of a choice in this matter.
Also, as an Australian voter, I almost put numbers in the boxes, instead of big 'X' marks.
