Merlin didn’t bother opening his eyes when he drifted awake. He just snuggled further under the blankets, relishing how warm he felt. He felt much cosier than he normally did on waking up on these cold winter mornings. And the blankets seemed much softer too. Clearly it was all part of his body’s conspiracy to keep him in bed all day. Right now he was quite tempted to give in. He started to drift back off…
A soft sigh in his ear startled him fully awake. He would have shot bolt upright except something was lying heavy across his chest, pinning him in place. As his mind cleared he realised why he had been so warm, why those blankets had been quite so soft. He was in the Prince of Camelot’s bed, and that weight pinning him in place was an arm belonging to the Prince himself! Because last night he had found out that the fantasies he thought only he had, were actually shared by the man who featured in them. And they had…
“Merlin…” Arthur mumbled sleepily, “Stop wriggling. You’re letting the cold air in.”
Merlin smiled and settled back down, turning underneath Arthur’s arm to face him, marvelling at how good the blonde haired man looked in the morning - he suspected he looked far more dishevelled. Arthur blinked through sleepy blue eyes and returned the smile with a mixture of shyness and triumph.
Merlin suspected that this first morning after…. was supposed to be awkward. But it just felt so right. He wondered if Arthur was thinking the same thing when he said quietly,
“I’m glad you stayed, Merlin”
“Me too.”
They remained lying in each others arms, and when Merlin’s conscience finally kicked in and he muttered that he should go and get breakfast and start his chores Arthur just tightened his grip and said,
“It’s too cold for chores. Have the day off and stay in the warmth with me?”
And how could Merlin refuse such an offer?
