Well, anyway, I AM RIDICULOUSLY GLAD THAT YOU LOVE IT, and that you love applied linguistics, because, I mean, it is pretty much the best thing since real-life conversations about metaphysics as represented by applied linguistics (which I totally dominated my AP Chemistry class with, back in high school, for a good two days, oops; space simply can't be made up on nothing, because, semantically speaking, it then wouldn't exist). I have a Critical Theory class I'm in right now in undergrad that's basically repeated conversations about applied linguistics and I love it so damn much. I'm sure you've read Austin, right? Probably one of the most hilarious linguists to be discussed aloud and diagrammed ever. Oh, man. ♥
(I did -- ten hours. It was delicious. And, uhm, this is generally my response to all things, especially good conversation, but do you mind if I friend you?)

Heehee I don't envy your AP Chem classmates, having to be up against such deep thinking in high school lmao. I'm seriously in awe of how you manage to tie language and the deeper meaning of grammar with almost unrelated subjects like chem or metaphysics. ♥
I don't believe I've come across Austin yet, as I've been more focused on the functional side of linguistics. I probably will soon, though, so I'm looking forward to it :D
[and LOL. I was thinking about friending you too, except I'm horribly passive & shy about these things XD friending you now ♥]

I was sort of well-known in high school for talking constantly and only rarely making any sense whatsoever except to the people that I was friends with (who were on the same page as I was) and people that I knew pretty well. My high school was actually really high up there in "ridiculously good educations," so it's not as frightening as it seems, honestly. (And it was a public school in a small town. We've been referred to as the twilight zone, once or twice or a zillion times.)
Ooooooh. Look up J.L. Austin "How to Do Things With Words." Excellent. His manner of describing things is a little dense, and it might take some slow, concise reading, but it's so much fun. Oh, man. (If you can't find it, I can, erm, oh-so-legally-obtain-it, haha. ♥)
(I think I've been referred to as "shy" once in my life and I had the flu at the time. My dad laughed hysterically for about an hour. They thought he was overdoing it a little. He probably was not. I used to walk up to perfect strangers, when I was 2-3 or so, and introduce myself with my full name, my address, and my phone number. My dad was always afraid we'd get robbed or I'd get kidnapped.)

Ah! I looked him up (I thought you were talking about a Peter Austin in linguistics) and I believe I'd read a bit by Austin by proxy, through Searle's own similar thoughts. So I will definitely be looking him up soon, and I'm excited - it looks to be a similar collection of lectures like the one Searle gave while he was at Harvard. And ha! no need for oh-so-legally-obtaining-it, I'm sure I can find a copy at my univ. library next week.
[LOL oh wow. Hilarious but so dangerous :D]

(Yes, so much, oh man. How I'm still alive, sometimes, I have no idea. But, well, not being shy is awfully handy in being an advocate and public speaker, haha.)

And you're an advocate/public speaker? How awesome ♥ although that makes sense, lol.

Well, technically, I will be an advocate/public speaker, but I certainly get plenty of practice now, too. ♥ I am giving a presentation on the state of the Des Moines foster care system as evidenced by the opinion and interaction of those who experience it on a daily basis in a week, actually, which is fairly frightening. Egads! I'm a child advocate, really; or, again, will be. I'll be attending law school next year.

Good luck on your finals :O And UGH early morning finals suck so bad.
And good luck on your presentation! Child advocacy is wonderful and it's great that you're shedding some light on the foster care system ♥

Well, I love it and it's important to me, so it's sort of like, "DO THIS OR BE A DUMBASS WHO DOESN'T DO ANYTHING" because I'm really very unmotivated when it comes to, ah, everything else ever. Oops?
