The fantasy-drama shaped hole left in BBC One's schedule by the mid-season break for Doctor Who, has been ably filled by the return of Merlin. The opening episode of the fifth series, which saw King Arthur and his Camelot knight investigate mysterious disappearances, proved to the most popular of the month with 7.1 million viewers.
