. see you soon . gwaine/merlin . PG . 941words notes: i don't know. i don't think myself capable of 1)writing proper slash even though i ship it 2) writing Gwaine IC. 3) writing with more than a very limited vocabulary. So, I really hope this is not too bad.
He is about to rush his horse forward to follow Arthur back to Camelot when he, basically, decided this is seriously stupid. If Arthur expects that no one ever finds about his and Gwaine help on the quest, it’ll make no sense (no matter the excuse) that they arrive together. In a second decision, he turns around and pushes his horse fast down the opposite way. He doesn’t wonder why he is doing it, other than mere excuses and delaying the real good bye, it just seems in that moment like a good plan. He’ll deal with Arthur later. He can always deal with Arthur later.
It doesn’t really take long to reach Gwaine. His pace is slow. Too slow, but Merlin doesn’t stop to think of that, instead just speeds up until he reaches the other man side. He feels himself smiling widely, between short breaths as if he had been running instead of riding. Gwaine doesn’t look up at first, but he can see his smile too.
“So, have you decided to give up on that Price of yours, Merlin?” Gwaine laughs and it’s so contagious that Merlin feels his heart will flee from his body. “Nah. Never.” “Thought so.” Merlin thinks he sees a flash of sadness on his friend face, but it last just a seconds and decides it’s just a bit of his flawed imagination. “Looking for a bit of adventure then?”
They have stopped now; Merlin never noticed he did so. He looks away and then back at Gwaine, he isn’t really sure why he is here. Or maybe he is, but he just doesn’t know how to say it. Silence suddenly feels a bit heavier between them and the feeling is so strange Merlin can help but laugh nervously. “Maybe” finally comes the answer. Gwaine is laughing at him, freely and happily and Merlin wishes he could follow him anywhere, or just bring him home. But he can’t. So he grumps and pouts and looks away until Gwaine decides to ask why he really came back for him and under all the casualness there’s a bit of worry, and Merlin know he is not imagining this time.
“I…” he feels a bit like the night they spent on the campfire. Discovering a bit of new world, of things he didn’t know he had. He has a friend now, a friend that truly cares for him, that’ll risk his life for him, a friend, and the word echoes in his head, and his throat feels dry where his words tumble and fall behind with no sound. “I wanted to say goodbye. - A proper good bye,” he adds before Gwaine interrupts him.
Gwaine smiles, with that way he has, a bit between amusement and…, now that Merlin knows him even a bit more, tenderness, or care… or something because Merlin has never been good at point out this things. He gets down of the horse, because, whatever he has planned, it won’t work from here and waits until Gwaine does the same. And before he can realise it, his arms are around the man body, and his is constraining his movements in a quite fervently hug.
He feels Gwaine trying -with all the movement he lets him- to pet his back. He lets go a bit, and Gwaine is the one to hold to him then, patting his head a bit in a very brotherly way (somehow the thought annoys him a bit too much). “Thanks,” Gwaine voice echoes on his skin, close to his ear and Merlin shivers. He can see, in the closeness to Gwaine his eyebrow lifting up in curiosity and he is not sure whether he just wants the hug to end, or hide his face in the corner of the man’s neck.

“Thank you,” he says instead, gaining a bit of coherence back. “I… I should…” Distance starts to separate them, and Merlin looks over his shoulder towards Camelot unconsciously. “Of course,” Gwaine answer doesn’t however come from as far as he is expecting. Th man is not turning, or jumping on his horse, he is, on the contrary, leaning towards Merlin. “Arthur will worry” he says, a mischievous smile playing on his, his very close lips, and before Merlin can realise what it’s happening those same lips are crushing against his. Sweetly and desperate, and he -understanding his own porpoise for this goodbye- is kissing him back.
It’s a bit awkward, thought, Merlin doesn’t have time to really think about it, as he is too focused on the taste of alcohol and sweatiness of Gwaine on his mouth. It’s strange and new and intoxicating and he doesn’t want it to stop. His arms eventually fall limp by either side of his body incapable of deciding what to do with them, and after what it feels forever and at the same time too short, they stop and Gwaine smirks on his mouth. “See you soon, Merlin”.
It takes seconds for the man to part away ad get on his horse, all smiles and happy bright eyes. Merlin wishes he could follow him. “You should hurry up,” Gwaine leans down from over the horse. “We don’t want Arthur to wonder what you’ve been up to, do we?”
He laughs, and gets on his own horse as he sees Gwaine ride away. His fingers rest on his lips for a bit, unaware of this fact, he finally wakes up and turns around. He really should make he is by Arthur side once he presents the results to the quest to his father, he can see how he’ll deal with Arthur questions after that.

Great story and really in character. I was waiting for this kind of story. Gawain/merlin is really cute and sweet and can be really canon. Gawain really treat merlin dearly and he look really lonely to part with him. I wish Merlin ask for a day off so he can sneak off with Gawain too. I kind of hoping Merlin would forget Arthur and choose gawain as a lover. I mean arthur/merlin is my OTP but I was upset as how Arthur treated Merlin.Merlin need someone like Gawain in his life. I love the kiss. Gawain would totally taste like alcohol considering how much time he spend time in a bar

Oh! I'm so glad to hear it sounds IC, since I'm always terrible terrified to screw characters LOL. And tbh, in my book, they are totally canon. And I'm all for a new ot4, anyway~~ And yes. I tried to think of sth else but couldnt XD Thanks for reading :DDD

You were right. i wish someone would right a love fourth angle about the 4. I would love to read story where merlin was in love with arthur but arthur was with Gwen(in love/marriage). Merlin would be heartbrocken and Gawain will comfort him. Seeing merlin in another man arm will open Arthur eye.

lol i'm more of a ALL FOR ALL, or more merlin/gwaine & arthur/gwen. BUT ALL WITH ALL IS PEREFECT FOR ME. XD tho, your scenario makes more sense XD cause Gwaine > Merlin > Arthur > Gwen.
