Summary: The new mechanic is not what Arthur expected. AU steampunk.
Author’s notes: Written for the Prompt Lottery at ag_fics. My prompt was “AU Steampunk, Arthur meets his new mechanic and sparks fly. Based On This Image”. It won mod’s choice. (Thanks, guys!)
This is supposed to be steampunk. (I won’t pretend I didn’t wiki “steampunk” and promptly say “Oh, thaaaat”.) I’d say it’s got the “steam” part but the “punk” is a bit weak (or something like that). It seems to be lacking the fantasy/science fiction. So, uh… pretend that’s in the background, lurking just out of sight?
I’d encourage anyone interested in reading more Merlin steampunk to check out miakin’s series, which was also initially based off of the above pic (although not A/G). Here is the masterpost (you have to be a member of miafic to read the higher rated ones). I also want to thank her for graciously encouraging me to write when I contacted her to make sure I wasn’t stepping on any toes. :)
