Challenge Fourteen
Catch That Arthur
View all open challenges here! Basic Description:
The rules for this game are detailed but it worked well last time we had it once people got the hang of them; plus now you can look at the tag below to see how to play.
Here is your game grid:
link First you need to decide if you are going to be the grid-keeper or the grid-player. You can play as many times as you like!
How to Play (Player)
The aim of the game is to find Arthur (for any reason you want) on a grid that has various other characters on it. If you find Arthur the game ends and you win, if you find Uther the game ends and you lose. You have the option of playing as one of two characters:
If you pick Morgana - you have a dream the night before you go to Camelot and you see either Gaius or Gwen moving around (doesn't matter which, it is up to you). When you make your first move, tell the keeper about your dream and they must reveal where that character is on the board. This will make more sense further down.
If you pick Alvarr - well, he isn't exactly the nicest of chaps is he? He doesn't have Morgana's vision but if he runs into Gauis or Gwen then he will kill them so they don't raise the alarm. He can't kill them when he doesn't know where they are though, so he can't do anything unless he runs into them. He can only kill one and it must be the first one he finds, it is up to you why he doesn't kill the second if he meets them as well but, well, he just doesn't :P Once he has killed, he is able to go into their square as though they were never there in the first place.
The Game Board
You've managed to sneak into Camelot (the game board) and are moving around. You can only move one square at a time and these squares must be joined (diagonal does not count.) You can start at any point on the board - look at the link above. If you start on D3 you can then move to D2, D4, C3 or E3, then if you move to E3 you can only move next to E2, E4 or back to D3 (you can move onto any number of squares you've been on before - because otherwise you could accidentally trap yourself.)
So, move around the board bit by bit and hope you don't run into any problems claiming the prince! See the keeper section of these rules to find out what you might find!
How to Play (Keeper)
If you are the grid keeper are given certain things you must put on your grid and you have to make a note of where these are before you start playing. You can move things around each time you play but once someone starts to play you can't move items until that game is over!
The following are your game pieces - you must include all of them on the board;
ARTHUR: The big prize, if the player finds Arthur before the game ends then they win 20 points!
UTHER: Your key weapon against the player. If the player finds Uther then their game is over and you win 20 points, no ifs, ands or buts, that's it because you know Uther won't let them out of Camelot alive! Well, maybe he will for Morgana but the game is still over :P (Note: if the player starts on Uther's square they still end there, without moving a square)
MERLIN: He's on your side, protecting Arthur as he always does. If the player runs into Merlin then you gain 5 points but the game still continues.
MORGAUSE: Morgause is in Camelot as well, sneaking around and is willing to help any player who finds her by giving them 5 points.
GWEN AND GAIUS: Gwen and Gaius, they're not doing much, just standing in the way of the player really. You can use them as blocks as you see fit, whether you want to make it harder for them to get to Arthur, whether you're trying to hide Morgause or whether you're trying to get them towards Merlin or Uther. The one thing you can't do with them is block off anything entirely. You can not (and this is a big, big rule) put, for instance, Arthur in E1 and Gwen and Gauis in D1 and E2. Similarily, you can't put Morgause in a corner and block her off. You can put anyone in a corner if you want but there must be an accessible route. Yoou can even use your blocks as tricks incase someone plays Morgana to send them looking in the wrong direction!
If the player is Morgana then they need to tell you when they start whether they dreamt about Gwen or about Gaius and you must tell them where that one block is (the other block remains secret and they can't dream about them once they've started moving about so be sure to remind them if they've forgotten to say). The block remains in position however, and the player can't move through them.
If the player is Alvarr then you don't tell them where either block is but the first block they run into they kill and can move freely in that square. The other block remains the same as normal, even if he meets it, he can't go through them.
If a player starts the game on a block (whether this was their dreamed about character or not) and they are Morgana then tell them and they need to pick another block to start on.
-------------------
So - the game ends whenever a player meets Arthur or Uther (the games does not end when Merlin and/or Morgause is found), what happens inbetween is unknown. Feel free to make this game as basic or as detailed as you like and create a story if you'd like - feel free to say if there is anything in the blank squares but these things don't effect the game play. They may run into Sir Leon in B4 but what he does won't change anything in the next squares.
Some of the stories last time around were great!
TEAM GWEN: Put your hands up THIS IS CLUE '5'
Points Breakdown:
Find Uther: 20 points to Keeper
Find Merlin: 05 points to Keeper
Find Arthur: 20 points to Player
Find Morgause: 05 points to Player
How To Enter:
Each person can play as a keeper and player at the same time but only one game at a time. The exception to this rule - if 36 hours have gone by without a reply, feel free to start playing with another person and continue your old game as well if the other member comes back.
You can only play against members of other teams so when you first post you must include your team name so people know if they can play you. Only two people can play each game and it is first-come-first-served. If you are a player you must find a keeper without a player to play against.
If you are a keeper, make a note for yourself where everyone is on the board and keep this safe. Once you are ready, post that you have a grid and someone should come play you!
If you a player, decide who you will be this time and then reply to a keeper that you will play them. Give the name of your character and use your power if you're Morgana and your first grid square.
The keeper then replys to the player and tells them what (if anything) is in that square.
The player then picks an adjacent square and continues.
You don't have to alter the grid to play, you can do it all in text form but it might help you to keep a note in the comments of which squares you have been through.
Due Date:
Thursday 3rd June at 1pm UK Standard Time
You CAN Kind Of Discuss This Challenge In Your Team Communities - discuss strategies for where to put your pieces as a keeper but don't discuss where people may think pieces are when you are a player.
