Uther didn't want to cause a scandal, so he hinted _strongly_ to Merlin that he should resign =D
He then wrote the most perfunctory letter of reference ever. Poor Merlin ended up being a substitute teacher. A lot.

Arthur wouldn't give up and tracked Merlin down once he was in uni.

Clearly Arthur saw his Lit teacher as a rival to Merlin's affections ;-)
He would obsessively do his reading assignments and raise his hand whenever the teacher made a mistake >=D
Meanwhile, the Literature teacher wished he could teach History instead, because even Arthur Pendragon couldn't contradict historical facts, by Jove!

How large are public schools usually? Would Uther be more fitting as a public or private school headmaster?

With Merlin I keep on writing tiny glimpses to different universes because I seem to have a gazillion AU ideas ^^;;

What would be ideal is if my drabbles infect someone else to write longer fics, heh. (It happened once! It can happen again! *sacrifices jelly beans to the fanfic gods*)
