canon-era sickfic
I can't remember much about this one, other than that whatever illness Merlin had was terminal, and the author of the story had it too. I think the fic was multi-chapter and on ffn but other than that details are pretty vague.
I think it involved a large body of water at some point? like the lake of avalon or maybe it was just the ocean, I don't really remember. At any rate at least part of the story involved the knights and Merlin travelling to this lake/sea/whatever either because it possibly held a cure or just because they were honoring Merlin's wish or something
at somepoint Arthur catches merlin trying to wash his clothes because he's thrown up on them or otherwise soiled them I think? and when Arthur tries to stop him he goes on a rant about his body betraying him? that might be from a different fic, but if anyone knows what it's from please rec it to me, because I'm really empathizing with that right now.
I'm pretty sure it ends with Merlin walking into this lake thing and the waves engulfing him and somehow curing him. there was a little authors note at the end saying just because author's illness was terminal didn't mean Merlin couldn't have a happy ending i think.
I don't think it was a magic reveal, but I could be wrong.
