Excercise in Positive Thinking

Jun 24, 2010 01:46

So, last night I had this nightmare: I dreamed that I posted something on lj, and then people started arguing in the comments about whether Kurt Hummel is a bottom or a top, and it got really out of hand, and then someone accused me of being narrow-minded and cementing gender stereotypes in my fanfiction ... and then I woke up, all exhausted and panicked.

Way to go, dear subconscious. Actually, this pretty much sums up how I've felt about lj the last couple of weeks. There have been days when I was almost scared of logging in, because even though I've always stuck to my f-list and not even dared to look left or right, I keep reading about people who got insulted or trolled, or stumbling across yet another post that causes a long list of wanky, vicious comments. And even though none of the aggression has been directed against me (at least not that I know of!), it just really makes me so sad and furious to see people get picked on for no apparent reason.

And I had already outlined this whole speech to express my disappointment in human mankind in general and fandom in particular ... and then I thought: fuck it.

Take a deep breath. I'm lucky enough to live in a peaceful corner of fandom, surrounded by awesome, lovely people. I want my journal to be a safe haven, full of baby chicks, rainbows and pictures of Chris Colfer. So I'll do my best to keep it that way.

So, you know, instead of ranting to you about things you already know anyway, I'm going to make this an exercise in positive thinking, and tell you about things that are awesome:

1. Fic Fest! We are doing a Kurt/Mike Fic Fest over at kurtmike! Because those two need all the love they can get. You can (and should!) leave many awesome prompts until June 30th, and then you'll have more than two months to claim your prompt(s) and write a little something!

2. Leverage! Yay! I finally got around to watch the season premiere. And it was awesome! Eliot's hair! Stripping Parker! Aldis Hodge's brother! I even liked Sophie (or whatever her name is these days)! Although I'm kind of confused about the air dates: Are they showing two episodes in a row now? Or ... what?
Anyway, I finally feel like writing Leverage fiction again. I'm pretty sure it's going to be Eliot/Parker/Hardison. Or maybe just Eliot/Parker. I would feel bad for leaving Hardison out, but those two just fit so well together. Also, I think I really should write more het, and those two would be a good place to start.

3. Castle! I watched Castle episodes! And because I'm a bad person, I didn't start at the beginning, like you guys told me to - but oh, I love it! I think Castle is going to be my new Numb3rs. Only funnier. And Ryan and Esposito are definitely my new David and Colby. Only funnier. But that's probably just because none of them has been a Chinese spy. At least not yet.
I've also read Esposito/Ryan fic - probably everything that's out there, which is not much yet. But I found some gems, so Castle fans, have two lovely E/R recs: Kevin Ryan is a Better Detective than His Personal Life Implies by celli and The inevitable coming-out-of-the-closet joke by scribblinlenore.

4. Nail Polish! Today I bought a bottle of metallic-green nail polish and I painted my toe nails. They are very green and shiny and utterly lovely, and green is and always will be my most favorite color in the world.

Now it's your turn! Tell me something awesome! Something that makes you happy! Something I can do to make you happy!

Speaking of which: I haven't forgotten your "Instead of Hugs" ficlets. In fact, I'm working on it! The next batch will be up very soon!

Love you, f-list!

castle, kurt/mike, my life, leverage, esposito/ryan
