I rented and watched some movies last weekend that I had missed in the theater. Here they be. (rated on a 5 star * scale)
RENT * * * * * I was one of the unlucky few who never saw the stage performance when it toured. Now I have seen the movie and all I have to say is WOW!!! The story lines are great, acting is spot on. But I have to admit that my favorite part of this movie was the music mixed with the story. The songs are, well, Phenomenal. I have been going around all week humming my favs - (525,600 minutes, Will I lose my dignity, No day but today, One song Glory, Today for you tommorrow for me etc). If you have never seen the play or the movie you no longer have an excuse rent RENT. I also watched the documentary (which I never do). OMG!!! It made me love the movie all that much more.
40 Year Old Virgin * * * * 1/2 Sounds cheesy but it was surprisingly good for a comedy. Steve Carell totally "nailed" the part. I thought it used a bit to much cursing just because it could which was a bummer but it did help to set the dual tone of those who were virgins and the one that wasn't. It's a good movie. Not to cheesy - think "There's something about Mary".
RED EYE * * * * Whew... I was thinking this would be a half descent movie but it surprised me. It was great. I actually rented 3 movies that were really good. It is suspensful in a unique way. You know the bad guy is the bad guy but the story doesn't let you know he is until later. And the WTF moment when the character realizes he's the bad guy is priceless. If you want a good suspense movie without copious displays of gore, this one is it. Very much a psychological/action movie.
For those of you who did not read my last reviews, let me tell you something about me and movies. I love them. There are those that I think totally suck. But for the most part I like a good story and have become quite good at seeing a trailer and knowing whether I'll like the movie or not. I'm not perfect though so sometimes I do get sucked in by a trailer only to be totally devastated by the film.
If you would like to offer a movie that you loved for my rating to gauge our similare likes/dislikes I will be happy to do so.
