Ok, So I have been feeling the urge to post something recently considering that I have not been very active in the last couple of months. Here is that something.
Is it just me or are people becoming more and more lazy in their online communication? For sometime now it has aggravated me to no end how absolutely clueless people are about the proper use of "then" and "than". These words are not interchangeable even though they sound similar. "Then" is used when describing a succession of events in chronological order. For example: I read the post in the forum and "THEN" became angry. "Than" is used when comparing two things. For example: I like oranges better "THAN" apples.
The other practice that is really pissing me off is when people consistently write in a forum/email the same way they do when they text message someone. Sorry folks... online communication is not texting!! Please learn to spell out words. I'll admit that these entries are usually done by a 'younger' crowd that doesn't care about presenting themselves as at least an average intelligent human being. Or possibly worse... they don't know the difference.
In the past, spelling and proper grammar were the items to get pissy about. These days spelling and grammar aren't even considered to be that bad in the face of such blatant writing atrocities like the following:
"u r my bst frnd n the hle wrld thk u for hlpng me it mnt a lot"
I'll admit to it that I sometimes don't use spell check and occasionally thar wil bee a messpilld wurd oar 2 in my righting. This is easily overlooked by me when others do it as I know that no one is perfect all the time (me included ;) but to allow yourself to consistently missuse words (or txt ease) is unforgivable and makes you look like an uneducated hick/bum.
I grew up in Alabama. This state is often the butt of many jokes when talking about inbred, retarded, no class people. Trust me... I have met people in the West, Northwest and East that make Alabama look like the epitome of class and sophistication.
Am I just being to particular about this issue or does it upset others as well?
