Movie Time

Went to see The Craft 2... ummm I mean... THE COVENANT yesterday with slanebugontoast. The following is my review of the movie WITHOUT spoilers in case you want to see it (mainly comments on the production, special effects, and story/character development).

Was the movie good - no
Was the movie bad - no

It was totally on the line (ie 5pts out of 10).
What the movie Didn't have
First off, if you watched the trailer(s) you know the premis of the story. I wanted more history of how the covenant came to be, why these families were chosen etc. Maybe even a flashback scene to when the covenant was made. That must have been an apparent last thought of teh director, writer, whomever. Character development is always good. This movie had very little. Watch the trailer and you have the character development. The movies predecessor "The Craft" was much better in these areas. Its like the writer of the Covenant said "hey, lets make a movie that is an exact opposite of the Craft". For the most part that is what they did. And couldn't they have gotten actors that don't look almost alike to play the good guy and bad guy?!!! I mean seriously . For most of the movie I was sitting there going "now is he the good guy?". And why did they have a 4th character if they gave him such a small amount of screen time?

What the movie DID have
REALLY cool special effects. If you watch the trailer, then you know. The effects were good without being overly done... A perfect balance. Awesome fight scenes. They were choreographed well and the actors performed them just as well. Shower scenes for those who like women and those who like men. Though the male shower scene was more graphic than the female shower scene... but not by much (PG-13 people). Fast cars, cute actors and magic... that sums it up.

Summary
I left this movie feeling the same way I did when I left X-Men III. It was entertaining to watch, but defnitely missed the mark in a few key areas. Overall, I would say I LIKED the movie... I didn't LOVE the movie. Would probably be a descent rental for most people but a great theater movie for special effects buffs.
