Otakon Video.... from last year!

Better late than never. VCAs reminded me I had not uploaded our video from Otakon back in June/July. Whoops!

Anywho, here it is:

Heh, one thing they haven't changed in the 10 years since "Failed Experiments in Video Editing" is that the Enter button still renders timeline previews. It's a little different now, though -- any section of the timeline that Premiere thinks it can't play back in real time (due to effects or whatever) is marked in red, and when you render that section it turns green.

Annoyingly, you can't render previews for anything that's not red, even if Premiere really can't actually play it back without skipping. (And yes, this does mean that Premiere can switch from rendered previews to original source footage and back when you're playing the timeline back. The transition is often a rough one.)
My way of getting around this is to stick a white matte at 0% opacity in the highest track for those sections -- that'll turn it red so you can force a preview. That, and/or just keep playing a section of the timeline until enough of it is in memory that it doesn't skip.

Also, pwolf is right -- as far as we could tell, Premiere Pro CS4 didn't offer any compelling reason to get it over CS3.

(Aside: I couldn't help but think of this after seeing your userpic...)
